Seven Pratic pergolas frame the Istrian sky

The Kempinski Hotel Adriatic (Umag-Croatia) is located in an area rich in olive groves and vineyards overlooking the Adriatic Sea and enjoys an extraordinary natural landscape. The choice to enhance this heritage – thus sublimating the offer of a 5-star Golf & Spa Resort – is the basis of the architectural design of the entire complex, led by the architect Matjaž Ivanić, who also intervened in the conception of outdoor areas in collaboration with Pratic, the leading brand in the design solar roofing industry.

Enhancing the restaurant on the top floor_The area of intervention is that of the Kanova restaurant, located on the top floor of the resort with a spectacular view over the private bay and overlooking the Croatian, Slovenian and Italian coasts to stretch to the borders of the Venice lagoon. The seamless windows and an airy terrace ensure that the intense light floods the living spaces for most of the day, making it impossible to enjoy them during the hottest hours. The goal to be achieved was therefore to offer protection from the sun and wind, but also to preserve the feeling of total openness to the beach below and the blue sea.

The customized solution of the Phoenix pergola by Pratic_Architect Matjaž Ivanić identified the Pratic Phoenix pergola as the ideal solution thanks to its functionality and aesthetics. Its retractable PVC cover allows, in fact the modulation of the opening of the cloth by naturally circulating the air below the aluminum structure: an environment of authentic open-air comfort made even more pleasant by the clean and elegant design that distinguishes all Pratic products.

The seven Phoenix modules were chosen in the white color and designed to be placed against the wall so as to create a natural extension of the restaurant towards the outside. The desire to follow the almost elliptical line of the terrace in a harmonious way also suggested to Pratic technicians to create a composition of single pergolas, one next to the other. A trick that has also limited visual impact of the structure. When closed, the waterproof cover uniformely shades the 113 square meters on which the terrace extends, thus giving the hotel a new and appreciated area used for lunches and breakfasts.  In the evening, however, the cover moves back silently to occupy a minimal area, thus opening a window onto the starry sky of Istria.
