Motorised pergola: hi-tech comfort and safety

01.24 — Product

Choosing a motorised pergola for the outdoors means guaranteeing maximum comfort and practicality for outdoor living. Home automation systems connected to your home and your smartphone allow you to control every aspect of your covering – and of several screens at the same time – with a gesture or voice command. The easiest way to always obtain the desired scenario: in terms of protection and climatic comfort, certainly, but also the most suitable atmosphere for every occasion.

Summary:

1. Motorised bioclimatic pergola

Among the most cutting-edge models, the motorised bioclimatic pergola stands out for its covering with aluminium sunshade blades that allow to adjust the degree of protection, light intensity and air circulation.
There are three types of movement available for Pratic models: the blades can tilt from zero to 140 degrees, retract until they compact into a small space, or overlap one on top of the other in an alternating manner. Each motorised bioclimatic pergola guarantees safe, smooth and silent movement by means of cutting-edge automation, to be chosen according to your needs.

1.1 Covering for motorised pergola

For motorised pergolas coverings, there are two automation options: the simplest ones only allow you to set the opening and closing of the roof, while the more complex motors are equipped with a special control unit, which allows you to calibrate each individual application and to benefit from the “soft start&stop” function, thanks to which the blades gradually adjust their movement, softening it at the beginning and end of the limit switch.
The covering for motorised bioclimatic pergola also offers the safety of anti-crushing and obstacle avoidance systems, which detect the presence of foreign elements between the blades and automatically block their advancement.

2. Motorised aluminium pergola

A further option for the functional furnishing of outdoor spaces is the motorised aluminium pergola, whose covering is made of a waterproof, high-strength PVC fabric that retracts to open up the space on the zenith plane.

Also in the case of motorised aluminium pergolas, there are two different options for the motor, both specially calibrated to the weight of the individual structure to ensure the sinuosity and maximum efficiency of movement.
To activate the sliding of the fabric, according to the desired commands, there are practical automations that make its management simpler and more immediate.

3. Automations for motorised pergola

Automations allow you to control blade movement to better manage your solar shading

When we talk about automations for motorised pergola, the most important aspect is perhaps the user experience, that is the ease with which every aspect of the sunshade can be managed.
This is where the various control options come into play: not only systems that can be activated with a ‘tap’ or the sound of one’s own voice, but also technologies that automatically adjust the pergola for comfort, but also according to the weather.

3.1 Remote-controlled automations

The remote control allows you to store different scenarios and easily recall them

Remote control automations are the most widespread and are the standard equipment for every Pratic motorised pergola. With a single, multi-channel remote control – hand-held or wall-mounted – it is in fact possible to control roofing, vertical blinds and lighting systems.
In the basic version, these allow single automations, such as opening or zenith closing, the lowering and the rolling up of the awnings (both with locking in any intermediate position) and the turning on and off of the lighting systems.
More advanced models, on the other hand, are able to memorise customised scenarios and recall them with a simple gesture. In this case, the remote control can also dim lights and set RGB colours.

3.2 Smartphone-controlled automations

Motorized pergola automations can also be conveniently managed via smartphones and voice assistants

In order to well manage your sunshade at any time and even remotely, the motorised pergolas are equipped with practical automations that can be managed via smartphone and tablet.
Thanks to the Daisy and Tahoma radio systems, Pratic pergolas easily connect to the home’s Wi-Fi network, linking the pergola with the many selected devices. The only requirement is the download of the dedicated app, through which you can reproduce all the functions of the remote control, create and recall your favourite scenarios, set timings and weather sensors, and also receive feedback to intervene if necessary.

3.3 Voice-controlled automations through Google Home, Amazon Alexa e Apple Home

Just one word is enough to achieve utmost comfort outdoors, when one has voice-controlled automations for its own motorised pergola.
Exactly as it happens for management via smartphone, Pratic pergolas use a special Wi-Fi interface to connect to the voice assistants Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Apple My Home and through the sound of one’s voice, activate each automation or pre-set, tailor-made settings.
In such case, no mobile device is required, other than the must-have loudspeaker allowing for direct communication with your pergola.

3.4 Automations using weather sensors

Open-air well-being provided by motorised pergolas is due to their capacity to interact with natural elements in order to obtain better natural lighting, temperature and air circulation. This is then optimised by automations using weather sensors, conceived not only to ensure extra comfort but also to protect the pergola from possible damages due to bad weather.

In fact, this second condition triggers the operation of the anemometers, which by detecting the wind speed in real time, are activated in the event of strong breezes, thus opening the canopy appropriately and rewinding the awning within the aluminium profiles. This prevents indeed the fabric’s integrity, but also that of the structure itself, which may be subject to vibrations and oscillations.
The same concept applies also to snow sensors: blades or PVC canopy open, thereby preventing the accumulation of snow onto the pergola, which, with its weight, could lead to slight deformations and malfunctions.

Weather sensors against rain and sun are indeed conceived to meet any comfort need. Rain sensor activate to close the roofing and protect the space underneath from rainwater, which is then conveyed within gutters integrated into the uprights.
When it comes to temperature and sunlight, sensors allow for the opening of the roof and eventual vertical awnings to be adjusted as well as to prevent excessive insolation of the space beneath and maintain a pleasant temperature.

4. Optionals for motorised pergolas

Exactly as for the canopy, optionals for motorised pergolas can be easily managed with same automation systems: multi-channel remote control, smartphone, voice control or with integrated weather sensors.
Especially the LED lighting systems, a must for making the most of outdoor pleasure in the evening hours, benefit from this, as do the vertical awnings maximising privacy and sun protection functions, with major benefits in terms of lower energy consumption.

4.1 Lighting

The LEDs on the uprights and blades can also be managed through different automation modes

A refined lighting is a key requirement for a well-thought out outdoor space. Hence, motorised pergolas offer a wide range of solutions – that can be combined to each other – to achieve an always cozy and refined outdoor ambience.
Pratic models are equipped with low-consumption and dimmable Led systems, with high-illuminating power. RGB colours feature on the strips illuminating the roofing perimeter and the modular platform whereas warm white lights are positioned either onto the PVC canvas’ ribs or on the blades of motorised bioclimatic pergolas or into the uprights.

Each light can be dimmed as desired thanks to the selected automation systems. Additional twilight sensors with pre-set switch-on and switch-off times can also be integrated.

4.2 Vertical awnings

Vertical perimeter blinds, when combined with weather sensors, allow autonomous management of shading

Functional and automated, vertical awnings for motorised pergolas are concealed within the roofing’s horizontal profiles and become visible only at need to provide shade along either sides of the pergola as well.
Controllable by remote control, smartphone or vocal commands, these become even more effective if combined with weather sensors, which secure them in case of wind and provide shade when sunrays and temperatures become more intense. This latter feature brings significant benefits when the pergola is leaning against the wall building and shades a glazed surface: the awnings’ operation will therefore prevent indoor overheating in summer, while letting sunlight seep during winter season.

4.3 Power outlets

Integrated power outlets make it possible to expand the use of motorized pergolas in different contexts

Power outlets are a small detail that further enhance Pratic motorised pergolas, thus expanding their usage potentialities: from relaxations or work areas up to hospitality rooms.
Installable at every level onto the uprights, these are available in conventional or USB version. In case of non-use, practical sliding caps can be used to easily conceal them. This is how hi-technology meets the purest aesthetics, in perfect Pratic style.
